Worth School 13 Plus (13+) Pretest Practice Tests (and Courses)

Introduction

Founded in 1933, Worth School was originally opened as an independent school for boys, but began to accept girls in 2012. The school practices Roman Catholic values and is open to pupils aged 11 to 18 years. Its 600 pupils are split between 10 houses, with its rural campus situated within West Sussex’s Worth Abbey, an active Benedictine monastery.

How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to Worth School

Before registering for a 13 Plus place at Worth School, children and parents are invited to attend an Open Day or arrange a private visit. The visit includes a tour of the school, an opportunity to meet the Headmaster and senior members of staff and to learn more about the teaching, facilities and activities on offer at Worth School.

Those keen to register following a visit must complete an online registration form, to be submitted alongside a non-refundable registration deposit of £100. Registration is simply an expression of interest and allows prospective pupils to be entered for the assessment tests and interviews; it does not guarantee a place at Worth School.

The Worth School 13 Plus Pretest Assessment

Before Year 9 places can be allocated, all candidates are required to sit the ISEB Common Pretest Exam by February in Year 7. The Common Pretest covers four key subjects: English, Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The test is fully age-standardised so candidates are not disadvantaged by when they sit the test. The online test is primarily designed to enable all children to demonstrate their academic potential. Pupils will usually sit the test at their current school although arrangements can be made for them to sit it at Worth School if their present school is unable to arrange it.

Worth School Admissions Criteria

In order to apply for a school place in Year 9, students need to pass the ISEB exam. The school also requires references and reports from a candidate’s current school and these are key components to the admissions process.

Candidates who pass the ISEB Pretest exam will be invited to attend an assessment day, which usually takes place in the spring of Year 7. Here, candidates will be required to participate in informal interviews and small group tasks; these serve to show Worth whether or not a pupil is suited to the school’s environment.

Offers will be sent out to parents in the spring of Year 7 and they are not conditional on Common Entrance results. Pupils who excel in specific subjects will be encouraged to sit for a Worth School scholarship.

How to Prepare for the Worth School Pretest

Worth School uses the ISEB Pretest as part of their assessment for 13 Plus entry. At Pretest Plus, we specialise in helping students prepare for independent school entry tests through our online pretest practice tests and courses.

They help students become better acquainted with the exam style and layout and also help identify their strengths and weaknesses ahead of the assessment.

Each practice tests consists of four timed sections that cover English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Once a test has finished, both parents and students will have the opportunity to review answers and read detailed explanations of each question. This feedback is essential in helping your child focus their efforts in the lead up to the pretest, as they’ll be able to allocate more time to any areas that they need to improve in.
