How to Apply for 11 Plus Entry to Cheltenham College Preparatory School

Cheltenham College accepts boys and girls into the Upper School via a selective process. Parents must download and complete the registration form and pay a non-refundable registration fee of £150 per child.

Successful applicants will be asked to attend an Entrance@11 Experience Day in November, enabling them to learn more about the school and also for teachers to see how the children interact with others. On this day, families will also be given the opportunity to talk to members of staff over an informal afternoon tea.

Cheltenham College 11 Plus Online CAT4 Assessment

All potential candidates for Cheltenham College must visit the school to sit the Cognitive Abilities Test. Testing for both current and external pupils takes place in November. The test focuses on four types of Reasoning: Verbal, Non-Verbal, Spatial and Quantitative. These tests are taken online and can only be taken once. Candidates are also required to complete a handwritten writing task, with each test lasting between 30 and 50 minutes.

The tests aim to showcase a child’s ability to reason and can help to predict their attainment levels for the future.

Cheltenham College Admissions Criteria

To be in with a chance of attending Cheltenham College in Year 7, students must pass the CAT4 exam and recent school reports may also be taken into consideration if required. Places will be allocated based on these factors and parents must confirm whether their child will be accepting the offer within a month of receiving it.

At 11+, Cheltenham College offers a number of means-tested bursaries for pupils who meet their entrance requirements.

If you have any further questions about the admission process at Cheltenham College, please contact the school via email at [email protected].

Each of our practice tests is pitched at the same difficulty level but contains a unique set of questions. The first test provides parents with an indication of their child’s current cognitive abilities, whilst the remaining can be a great way to benchmark and monitor progress and improvement.
