Charterhouse School 13 Plus (13+) Pretest Practice Tests (and Courses)

Introduction

Founded in 1611, Charterhouse School is a Surrey-based independent day and boarding school. Situated within a 250-acre campus, over 800 pupils attend the school, aged 13 to 18 years. The school is open to boys at 13+ and accepts girls at 16+ to their senior school.

One of the original seven English public schools outlined in the Public Schools Act 1868, Charterhouse is also one of the most expensive private schools to attend in the UK. Although the school prioritises academic achievements, pupils are also encouraged to take part in a range of sporting activities.

How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to Charterhouse School

Prospective pupils must first register their interest in attending Charterhouse School. Parents can fill in the online registration form and pay a non-refundable deposit to secure a place. Both parents and children will be able to visit the school prior to registration, but due to a substantial waiting list, parents are advised to contact the school when their son starts Year 6.

To proceed with an application to the school, students must complete a Provisional Entry Form and return it to the school Admissions Office. To obtain a form, simply email the office at [email protected], or call 01483 291 501.

During the summer term of Year 6, Charterhouse will invite applicants to visit the school for an interview. After the interview, prospective pupils will also be asked to take part in several other activities, to give them an opportunity to showcase their abilities to date and to learn more about the school and its objectives.

The Charterhouse School 13 Plus Pretest Assessment

Those registered with Charterhouse School must sit the ISEB Common Pretest Exam before places can be allocated. Taken in Year 6, these online multiple-choice tests cover four key subjects: English, Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The school uses the Common Pretest to better understand if a pupil is suited to academic life at Charterhouse. If a student hasn’t yet reached his potential at this stage, considerations may be taken to reassess him in Year 7.

Charterhouse School Admissions Criteria

Places will be offered at Charterhouse to boys who perform well in the pre-selection process. These offers are conditional, as pupils must be successful in the Common Entrance examinations or when sitting for a Foundation Scholarship. Students’ preparatory school reports will also be taken into account and Charterhouse may talk to your child’s Prep School Headteacher if they have any outstanding queries.

Once conditional places are allocated, parents must confirm their acknowledgement with an initial deposit and state whether Charterhouse is their first-choice school. Once this deposit is paid, the boys will be invited to a House Selection Day during Year 7; at the end of this day students select their preferred House. Parents will find out if their child has been chosen for his preferred House place during the summer term of Year 7.

In November of Year 8, parents are required to pay a second deposit, ahead of their son joining Charterhouse School in Year 9.

How to Prepare for the Charterhouse School Pretest

To secure a place at Charterhouse School in Year 9, prospective pupils must take – and pass – the ISEB Common Entrance Pretest Exam. Online tests and courses, such as the ones we offer at Pretest Plus, build confidence and improve a student’s performance under timed conditions.

Our online practice tests and courses enable students to become more familiar with the layout, style and content of the pretest, better preparing them for the actual assessment. If your child is preparing for the Charterhouse School pretest, our resources will help them succeed. They cover the necessary subjects of English, Mathematics, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning and can highlight areas in need of improvement.
