Introduction
Harrow School is located in Harrow on the Hill, London. Founded in 1572 by John Lyon under a Royal Charter granted by Queen Elizabeth I, Harrow is one of the original seven public schools regulated by the Public Schools Act 1868.
Within its broad co-curricular programme, pupils play in ensembles, sing in choirs, perform in plays, and participate in array of sporting activities. The school’s notable alumni include statesmen, writers, social reformers, a Nobel prize-winner and 19 winners of the Victoria Cross.

How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to Harrow School
Families are strongly advised to visit the school in order to get a feel of its atmosphere and ask questions of interest. Open Mornings take place on Saturdays and include a tour of the school and Boarding House. These events should be attended when the candidate is in Year 4 or above.
In order to be considered for Year 9 entry at Harrow School, boys need to register first. The registration form should be submitted along with a non-refundable registration fee of £350.
The school will ask for a confidential reference from the candidate’s current school at the end of Year 5.
Harrow School Assessments for Year 9 entry
Between October and the end of the Autumn term of Year 6, candidates for Year 9 entry will be invited to sit the ISEB Common Pretest. The Common Pretest measures ability and attainment, and is age-standardised so that no candidate has an advantage over any other based on their age. Whilst in Year 6, the strongest applicants will be invited to meet Harrow’s House Masters.
Also, those candidates who pass the ISEB Common Pretest will be invited back to the school to take the Harrow Test in the Autumn term of Year 7. The Harrow Test comprises two 15-minute interviews, an online predictive test examining skills in English and maths, and a short written essay. The online test is similar to CEM Select, which covers three areas: Verbal, Non-Verbal and Numerical Reasoning.
For those applying for a scholarship and/or a bursary, the admissions process includes completing and submitting a Scholarship and Bursary Application Form, which can be accessed on the school’s website.
