How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to Winchester College

Winchester College has recently undertaken a review of its admissions process and adopted a ‘human and personalised’ approach, focused on potential, not just academic achievement.

Before applying for a Year 9 place, the college recommends that parents and prospective students attend one of its Open Days, where they’ll have the opportunity to tour the school. The Open Days give students the chance to see the facilities on offer and to meet the Headteacher and current students.

For more information on how to book a place on one of the Open Days, parents are encouraged to contact the school on 01962 621178, or by email at [email protected].

In order to apply for 13 Plus entry at Winchester College, parents need to complete a registration form before the closing date in July and pay a non-refundable fee of £375. The registration form can be requested directly from the school.

After registration, all candidates are invited to take the ISEB Common Pretest in October and November of Year 6 at their current school. Interviews then take place in January and March.

Upon accepting a place at Winchester College, an entrance fee of £500 is payable.

Boys are then required to take either the Election or Winchester Entrance exams in April or May of Year 8. By June of Year 8, places will be confirmed.

For more information on the admissions process at Winchester College, please contact the Admissions Team on 01962 621247 or by email at [email protected].

Further details of the 13 Plus entry procedure are available on the Admissions page of the college website, where the full admissions policy can be downloaded.

How to Prepare for the Winchester College Pretest

For many students, the ISEB Common Pretest will be their first experience of taking an online assessment under exam conditions. At Pretest Plus, we believe that a little organisation can help students feel more at ease in the lead up to the test.

We recommend that parents help their child create a revision timetable that covers the four main areas of the exam. In addition to revising specific topics, it’s important that pupils put theory into practice by using practice tests.

Not only do practice tests help students become familiar with the layout of the pretest, they can help students recognise the types of questions they may be asked on the day. When taken under timed conditions in the lead up to the assessment, practice tests can also help improve time management skills and boost confidence.

At Pretest Plus, we publish online pretest practice tests and courses that enable parents to review their child’s attainment levels. Each test is marked automatically and comes with answers and detailed written explanations. Ranking statistics are also provided to give parents an indication of their child’s relative performance.

Our practice tests and courses are tried and tested. They have already helped tens of thousands of students successfully prepare for the ISEB Common Pretest.
