Stowe School 13 Plus (13+) Pretest Practice Tests (and Courses)

Introduction

Stowe School is a co-educational, independent school located in Buckinghamshire. Founded in 1923, the school admits pupils aged between 13 and 18 and sits within 750 acres of landscaped gardens.

With 780 pupils comprising of 550 boys and 220 girls, the school welcomes students from both Britain and overseas. Pupils are encouraged to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, such as sports, art and music and the school is a member of the Rugby Group, alongside 17 other independent schools in the UK.

How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to Stowe School

To apply for a 13 plus place at Stowe School, the first step for parents or guardians is to complete the registration form and pay a non-refundable registration fee of £200.  At Stowe, ‘registration’ means prospective pupils will be added to the school’s list and parents will be informed of availability of places. At this stage, parents and pupils are also encouraged to attend an open morning, giving families the chance to meet school staff and learn more about the day-to-day teaching.

Once registration is complete, parents are advised to contact the school to arrange a private visit. These usually take place two to three years before a child’s year of entry. During the visit, students will have an interview with school staff. You can contact the Admissions Office via email [email protected] or call +44 (0)1280 818 205 with any further questions regarding the 13 Plus application process.

The Stowe School 13 Plus Pretest Assessment

As part of the Stowe School application process at 13 Plus, all candidates must sit the ISEB Common Pretest exam, which is usually taken during Year 6 or Year 7, in addition to the admissions interview.

The Common Pretest is designed to provide schools with an overview of a pupil’s academic potential over several core subjects including English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The test can only be taken once and is age-standardised to make sure that no candidate has an advantage over any other based on their age.

Stowe School Admissions Criteria

In order to apply for a Year 9 place at Stowe School, students must pass the Pretest and then achieve the required pass mark at Common Entrance. Pupils will also be required to provide a satisfactory reference from their current school. Students must disclose any health or medical condition, educational need or any behavioural information that could be relevant to their school life.

Allocation of school places is based on the student’s performance in the pretest, their reference and their performance in the admissions interview. Following this process, the school will send successful applicants an Acceptance of Place Form and a deposit must be paid to reserve the place.

Stowe School also offers 13 Plus entry through various scholarships for pupils who excel in specific subjects, including art, music and sport.

How to Prepare for the Stowe School Pretest

For 13 Plus entry, Stowe School uses the ISEB Common Entrance pretest. At Pretest Plus, we help students to prepare for this competitive test with our online pretest practice tests and courses.

There are several benefits to preparing for the exam with online practice tests and courses, including helping your child get acquainted with the exam style and layout and improving time management. The tests and courses can also help identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses, allowing you to put additional focus on any weaker areas in advance of assessment day.

Our Pretest practice tests consist of four timed sections that cover Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Once the time is up, students can easily review their answers and read detailed explanations for each question. This feedback is essential in helping your child focus their efforts in the lead up to the exam.
