Introduction
St Swithun’s School in rural Winchester is set on an impressive 45-acre campus that overlooks the Hampshire countryside. Established in 1884 as an independent school for girls, boys can also attend up to the age of seven. Over 700 pupils are faced with a challenging academic programme whilst experiencing exceptional sporting and recreational facilities when outside of the classroom.
How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to St Swithun’s
Competition for 13 Plus places at St Swithun’s is extremely high, so the school advises parents to apply for a place at the ‘earliest possible opportunity’ to be in with a chance. Before submitting an application for 13 Plus entry, students and parents are invited to attend an open day, which usually takes place during term time. Parents will have the opportunity to talk to current pupils, other parents and teaching staff, as well as the school’s headmistress. To book a place at one of the school’s open days, simply request a prospectus and choose your preferred date.
Individual visits can also be arranged if those dates aren’t suitable, call +44(0)1962 835 700 or email [email protected] to arrange.
In order to proceed with a 13 Plus application to the school, parents are required to complete the registration form found in the school’s prospectus and return it to the school Admissions Office. Parents must also send a non-refundable registration fee of £100.
The St Swithun’s 13 Plus Pretest Assessment
St Swithun’s 13+ candidates are required to sit the ISEB Common Pretest Exam if they are to secure a Year 9 place at the school. The exam gives students the opportunity to showcase their ability in English, Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The ISEB online pretest is designed to show students’ academic potential and enables the school to see if pupils are ready for its challenging academic workload.
St Swithun’s Admissions Criteria
To be considered for a place in Year 9 at St Swithun’s, students must pass the ISEB Pretest. The senior school also requires a current school report for each pupil.
St Swithun’s also offers 13 Plus entry via scholarships for pupils who excel in academics, music or sport. Scholarship candidates are selected based on the results of the Common Entrance exam and will later attend an interview with senior school staff.
