Headington School 13 Plus (13+) Pretest Practice Tests (and Courses)

Introduction

Founded by evangelical Christians in 1915, Headington is a Church of England independent school for girls. Based in Oxford, over 1,000 pupils are split across eight houses, all of which are located within a 23-acre campus.

In 2012, new classrooms were added to the school’s already modern facilities, which include a purpose-built theatre and music school. A dance and fitness centre was opened in 2015 and Headington is one of the few schools in the UK to offer equestrian facilities.

How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to Headington School

Before submitting an application for 13 Plus entry to Headington School, prospective pupils and parents are encouraged to visit the school during a Senior Open Morning and talk to current staff members. Bookings can be made online. These open mornings offer parents and students the chance to see the school grounds and learn more about the opportunities on offer at Headington.

Registering your daughter at Headington ensures that her name is added to a provisional entry list. Application forms are sent with a prospectus request or via the school’s admissions office on +44 (0)1865 759 861 / email [email protected]. Registration includes a £125 non-refundable deposit for UK candidates and £250 for overseas students.

The Headington School 13 Plus Pretest Assessment

Before places are allocated at 13+, prospective pupils from independent schools must sit the ISEB  Pretest and the Common Entrance examination. Those applying from the maintained sector sit the school’s own 13+ examinations. The ISEB pretest gives schools an overview of a pupil’s academic potential and covers four core subjects: English, Mathematics, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The one-off test is age-standardised, ensuring that no candidates have an advantage based on their age.

Headington School Admissions Criteria

In order to apply for a school place in Year 9, students need to pass either the entry exam or one of Headington’s scholarship examinations, offered in music, drama, dance and sport. These exams must be taken at Headington School.

Successful applicants will be invited to the school for an interview and taster day following the pretest exam. Students’ current schools will also be asked to submit a Headteacher’s report at this time.

How to Prepare for the Headington School Pretest

Headington School uses the ISEB Common Pretest for 13 Plus entry. With over 50 years’ combined experience here at Pretest Plus, we specialise in helping students prepare for independent school entry tests via our online pretest practice tests and courses. They enable students to get acquainted with the exam style and layout and they can help improve time management skills.

Covering the same four subjects that are in the actual exam, our resources can help you identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses. This gives you the opportunity to allocate more time to any weaker areas well in advance of the marked exam.
