Eton College 13 Plus (13+) Pretest Practice Tests (and Courses)

Introduction

Founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, Eton College is located in the Berkshire town of Windsor. With over 1,300 boys in attendance, aged between 13 and 18, it is one of the UK’s leading independent schools. Eton is full-board, so all pupils live within the College’s grounds. The school marries together a traditional academic curriculum with a first-class sports and activities programme, enabling pupils to develop and flourish as individuals.

How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to Eton College

The Eton entry process begins early, so parents and guardians are encouraged to register their son in plenty of time. For entry after 2020, boys can be registered for Eton anytime from birth until the 30th June in Year 5.

To register your child’s place, you should download and complete the application form and return it to the school alongside a non-refundable deposit of £340. Once the form has been received and payment has been made, students will be placed on the Eton List. For questions about the registration form or the admissions process, call +44 (0)1753 370 611 or email [email protected].

Eton College 13 Plus Assessments

Candidates applying for entry must take the ISEB Common Pretest Exam as the first stage of the assessment process. This pretest usually takes place in October or November of Year 6 in a boy’s current school. The ISEB Common Pretest is designed to provide schools with an overview of a pupil’s academic potential over several core subjects including English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. It is fully age-standardised, to make sure that no candidate has an advantage over any other based on their age.

The second stage of Eton’s admissions process takes place in the Spring or Summer term of Year 6, depending on the candidate’s age. It consists of a computerised test created by Cambridge Assessment (CEM), similar to CEM Select, an informal interview and an assessed group activity. The second-stage exam covers 3 broad areas: Verbal, Non-Verbal and Numerical Reasoning. In addition to this, there will be a short written task.

Eton College Admissions Criteria

For entry to Eton College from 2020 and beyond, students who pass the ISEB Pretest exam, as well as Eton’s own second-stage tests and interviews, will be offered a conditional place.

They will then need to sit the King’s Scholarship, Common Entrance or the Eton Entrance Exam. Entry is dependent on a student passing one of these exams in Year 8. Parents will then be invited to meet some of the College’s house masters, to discuss their son’s living arrangements.
