Brighton College 13 Plus (13+) Pretest Practice Tests (and Courses)

Introduction

Founded in 1845, Brighton College is a boarding and day school located in Brighton. The school educates students aged between 11 and 18. Consistently described as one of Britain’s ‘most forward-thinking schools’, academic results at Brighton College place the school among the top 10 co-educational schools in England. The school has a strong focus on art, music, dance and drama and the College’s sporting achievements are nationally renowned.

In 2011, Brighton College Abu Dhabi opened its doors and there are plans for more international schools to be built in the future. In 2013, the school was named ‘UK School of the Year’ at the Independent Schools Awards.

How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to Brighton College

As competition for Year 9 places at Brighton College is high, parents are encouraged to register their child at least 3 years prior to entry. A registration form can be requested from the school’s Admissions Department.

Prior to registering children with the school, parents are encouraged to attend one of Brighton College’s Open Mornings, which take place on Saturdays throughout the year. These events provide parents and prospective students with an opportunity to meet current pupils and staff members as well as take a tour of the campus. A complimentary lunch is also provided. You can book a place on one of the College’s Open Mornings here.

The Brighton College 13 Plus Pretest Assessment

Once registration is complete, students are invited to take Brighton College’s pretest assessment. This is a two-stage process, which begins with candidates taking the ISEB Common Pretest at their current school. The test is computer-based and focuses on verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, maths and English. The test is age-standardised so that no candidates have an unfair advantage based on their age. Once the pretest is complete, Brighton College then contacts the student’s current school to request a recent pupil report.

Students that perform well in the pretest and receive a satisfactory school report are then invited to attend an Orientation Day. As part of the day, students will be required to take two tests in Maths and English and participate in two short interviews. The day also provides students with the opportunity to experience ‘taster lessons’ and participate in group activities.

Brighton College Admissions Criteria

Conditional offers of places are made following these assessments, based on the student’s school reports, their performance in the pre-test and how they do on the Orientation Day.

Students are then invited to sit the Common Entrance exam in Year 8. In order to pass the Common Entrance exam, students need to achieve an average mark of 60%, with at least 55% in both English and maths.

Upon accepting a Year 9 place at Brighton College, parents are required to pay a non-refundable deposit to secure their child’s place.

If parents have any questions about the 13+ admissions process at Brighton College, they can contact the school’s Admissions Office on 01273 704357 or email.

How to Prepare for the Brighton College Pretest

Preparing for Brighton College’s ISEB Common Entrance Pretest is worthwhile. At Pretest Plus, we would advise parents to create a study schedule with their child well ahead of the pretest date.

We believe that one of the best ways to prepare for the Brighton College Pretest is to use our pretest practice tests and courses. They are laid out in a similar way to the actual pretest, which will help your child become familiar with each element of the exam.

Our tests and courses will help students to identify the types of questions that they could be asked on the day. If introduced early into a student’s revision, they can also help identify any weak areas that need improving before the test.

As exam day approaches, we’d encourage students to take the tests under timed conditions in order to improve their time managements skills. The more pretest practice tests pupils complete, the better they’ll become at answering questions quickly and under pressure.

Our pretest practice tests and courses are an excellent way for students to prepare for the Brighton College pretest. They cover each of the four elements of the exam – verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, maths, and English – and students will be provided with instant feedback on their performance. Students will also have the opportunity to review their answers and compare them against our detailed explanations for each question. We also provide information on statistical averages to give an indication of relative performance.
