Cranleigh School 13 Plus (13+) Pretest Practice Tests and Courses

Introduction

Cranleigh School was opened in 1865 and is located in Cranleigh, Surrey. It was originally a boys’ school and began admitting girls in the early 1970s. It became fully coeducational in 1999. Surrounded by 280 acres of Surrey countryside, the school’s ethos is to encourage students to look beyond themselves and make a difference to society.

How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to Cranleigh School

Cranleigh strongly recommends that parents and prospective students visit the school during one of their welcome mornings, which take place on Saturdays throughout the school year. These mornings provide families with an opportunity to visit the campus, take a tour, meet the headteacher and hear about future plans.

The school recommends booking in advance using the Book a Visit page on the website. Individual visits can also be arranged during the week.

In order to apply for a Year 9 place at Cranleigh, parents need to register their child early, ideally in years 4 or 5. The registration form can be found on the school’s website here. There is also a non-refundable registration fee of £200 to be paid to the Admissions Office.

Registered applicants are required to take the ISEB Common Pretest at their prep school in Year 6 between October and November.

After taking the test, applicants are invited to a Holistic Assessment Day in January of Year 6, which is designed to help the school learn more about applicants’ interests outside the classroom.

The Assessment day consists of the following:

– An informal interview with a senior staff member

– A group discussion

– An English creative writing paper

– Team building activities

The school also requires a report from each candidate’s prep school as part of the admissions process.

For more information on how to apply for a Year 9 place at Cranleigh School, please visit the Admissions section of the school’s website, or contact the school’s Admissions Office directly on 01483 276377.

The Cranleigh School 13 Plus Pretest Assessment

All applicants to Cranleigh School at 13 Plus level are required to take the ISEB Common Pretest in Year 6.

The pretest is designed to give schools an overview of a student’s academic potential over several core subjects: English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

The test can only be taken once and is age-standardised to ensure that older students don’t have an unfair advantage.

Parents can learn more about the ISEB Common Pretest by reading our post The ISEB Common Pretest: What You Need to Know.

Candidates who are successful in the Cranleigh School pretest and the school’s assessment day are then invited to take the ISEB Common Entrance Examination in June of Year 8 for setting purposes. Most place offers are made during the Lent term of Year 6.

How to Prepare for the Cranleigh School Pretest

A little preparation can go a long way to helping students succeed in the Cranleigh School pretest. We recommend that parents create a study schedule with their child that focuses on activities relating to the four core elements of the exam: English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

At Pretest Plus, we believe that one of the most effective ways to prepare for the ISEB Common Pretest is to use practice tests and courses that are specifically tailored to match the actual exam. Our online pretest practice tests and courses enable students to answer questions similar to those that will come up in the actual test.

Not only do our online tests and courses help students become familiar with the layout and style of the pretest, they can also help improve students’ time management skills and identify any weak areas.

After each test, parents can review their child’s answers and receive prompt feedback about each question in the form of detailed written explanations. Ranking statistics are also provided to give parents an indication of their child’s relative performance.

Our Pretest practice tests and courses are tried and tested. Tens of thousands of students have already used them to prepare successfully for the ISEB Common Pre-test.
