Introduction

Cranbrook School is a co-educational boarding and day grammar school in the market town of Cranbrook, Kent. Formerly known as Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Cranbrook was granted a royal charter in 1574, which can now be found in the school’s library. [1]

A number of notable alumni benefitted from its strong academic provision, including professors, military officers, neurosurgeons, journalists and astronauts. Accordingly, the Cranbrook School curriculum is challenging, covering a broad range of subject areas such as art, biology, chemistry, computer science, drama, English, food & nutrition, geography, history, Latin, maths, MFL, PE and physics.

Cranbrook School In-Year Entry (12 Plus & 13 Plus) Admissions Information

Cranbrook School standard entry point is 11 Plus. However, the school also accepts applications from pupils interested in In-Year (Late) Entry. To assess pupils for casual admissions entry, Cranbrook School administers the CAT4 online test.

The Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4) covers four subject areas, each of them evaluating pupils’ Reasoning skills through standardised assessments.

Please note that Cranbrook School has a priority area, measured through a straight line distance (within 8.5 kilometers) from a defined point on the school site, Queens Hall Theatre.

The CAT4 assessment will cover Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, Spatial Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning.

• The Verbal Reasoning section examines problem-solving skills using words.

• The Non-Verbal Reasoning section covers problem-solving using shapes and patterns, rather than words.

• The Spatial Reasoning section assesses your child’s ability to identify shapes and how they change. 

• The Quantitative Reasoning section tests their ability to solve problems using numbers.
