Founded in 1863, St Edward’s School, Oxford is a coeducational day and boarding school. Around 700 pupils are split across 13 houses, with each house made up of around 60 pupils from all year groups.

How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to St Edward’s School, Oxford
St Edward’s School Oxford hosts small open morning events on most Saturdays during term time. For 13+ entry, an open day is organised in May for those interested in applying for a Year 9 place. The school recommends visiting when students are in Year 5 before beginning the application process. Parents can book a place at an open event via the school’s website.
Parents who would like to apply for a Year 9 place at St Edward’s for their child should complete the registration form on the school’s website. A non-refundable deposit of £100 is required and the form requests parental information and details of any special arrangements for the child. St Edward’s School, Oxford, 13 Plus Pretest Assessment
St Edward’s School, Oxford has a policy that children at preparatory schools apply for a Year 9 place via the ISEB Common Pretest exam. Students who don’t attend a prep school take St Edward’s own 13 Plus entrance exams in January of the year of entry.
The ISEB Common Pretest exam is usually taken in October or November of Year 7. This pretest is an age-standardised computerised test that is primarily designed to measure a student’s academic ability. The test covers four core subjects: Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, Maths and English.
After completing the pretest, children will be invited to visit St Edward’s for an interview and a report will be requested from their current school. Places are then offered to registered children subject to entrance exams. An £800 acceptance deposit is payable to confirm a place – £500 is refunded on final account. The deposit is also refunded if your child does not meet the required standard in the exams or is removed on medical grounds.
St Edward’s School, Oxford, Admissions Criteria
Year 9 admission is determined by the pretest exam and interview in Year 7. Pupils who do not attend a preparatory school are also required to attend an interview and sit St Edward’s own 13+ entrance exams in Year 8.
Parents are strongly advised to refer to the school’s admissions policy ahead of applying for a Year 9 place at St Edward’s School.
Pupils are accepted into the school via one of three entry procedures:
– The Common Entrance examination. The school requires pupils to reach a minimum standard of 55% in English, Mathematics and Science with an overall average of 55% in other subjects.
– The 13+ Entry Examination. This is for children applying from schools that do not prepare for Common Entrance. Pupils visit the school in January, prior to entry in the September, and sit the school’s 13+ entry examinations in English, Mathematics and Science. In addition, students will take a Non-Verbal Reasoning Test and have two interviews.
– The Academic Scholarship. This is taken at the school at the end of February or beginning of March. Pupils sit the school’s own scholarship papers in all subjects.
