Carre’s Grammar School Late Transfer Entry | Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT)

Introduction

Carre’s Grammar School, founded in 1604, is a boys’ selective secondary school for students aged between 11 and 18. The school also has a co-educational sixth form. Located in the market town of Sleaford, Lincolnshire, the school became an academy in 2011.

Carre’s Grammar offers many clubs and societies, including sports, languages and music activities. Students from the school also frequently participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

How to Apply for Late Transfer Entry to Carre’s Grammar School

Before applying for a place at Carre’s Grammar School, it is worth visiting the school during one of its open days. At these events, the school operates an ‘open door’ policy, to enable visitors to see inside classrooms. Staff will also be available to answer any questions about the admission process or school curriculum.

If your child is already in Year 7 or above, they will be unable to take the 11 Plus exam. For a mid-year admission, a Cognitive Ability Test (CAT) will be used for Years 7-11.

Carre’s Grammar School is governed by the Lincolnshire County Council’s Co-ordinated Admission Scheme. Further information can be found at Lincolnshire County Council.

For more information on the admissions process at Carre’s Grammar School, please read the admissions policy or contact the Admissions Officer at [email protected].

Carre’s Grammar School Late Entry CAT4 Assessment

If your child is already in Year 7 or above, Carre’s Grammar School uses a Cognitive Ability Test (CAT) to assess academic ability and potential. The CAT is designed to assess a pupil’s ability in verbal reasoning (thinking with words), quantitative reasoning (thinking with numbers), non-verbal reasoning (thinking with shapes and space) and spatial reasoning (thinking with abstract shapes).

How to Prepare for Carre’s Grammar School CAT4 Assessment

Preparing for the CAT4 requires organisation and a good study schedule. It’s a good idea for parents to start their child’s revision well ahead of the test date to identify any weaker areas that may need improved.

At Pretest Plus, we have CAT4 practice tests and courses that can help students prepare for the Carre’s Grammar School entrance assessment. The 90-minute practice tests each contain eight modules that test Verbal, Non-Verbal, Quantitative and Spatial Reasoning skills. The tests and courses will help to familiarise students with the layout of the exam and get them used to the types of questions that they may be asked on the day.
