City of London School 13 Plus (13+) Pretest Practice Tests (and Courses)

Introduction

Founded in 1442, City of London School is an independent day school for boys aged 10 to 18 years. Situated on the River Thames, City of London School, known by many as CLS, provides education to approximately 900 boys, split between six Houses.

Although pupils are challenged academically, CLS also puts great emphasis on developing pupils’ social confidence and offers a range of extracurricular activities – there are over 50 clubs and societies to choose from.

How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to City of London School

City of London School welcomes 40 new boys in Year 9 every year. Application and selection of pupils begins in Year 6, with a view to joining CLS in Year 9. Due to the number of applicants the school receives, parents are strongly advised to apply for a place plenty of time before the deadline.

You can register your child online, alongside a non-refundable payment of £150. You must also provide details of your child’s school history over the past three years.

If you have further questions about applying for a place at CLS, contact the Admissions Team on 0203 680 6300 or email the Registrar, [email protected].

City of London School 13 Plus Pretest Assessment

Before places can be allocated at CLS, prospective students must take the ISEB 13+ Common Pretest Exam during the autumn term of Year 6. The entrance examination is usually taken at the pupil’s current school. The timed pretest is taken online and covers four core subjects, English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The aim of this one-off test is to give schools an idea of a pupil’s academic potential and help the Headteacher make a decision on place allocation.

City of London School Admissions Criteria

To be offered a place in Year 9 at CLS, pupils must pass the ISEB exam, take additional written assessments in English and Mathematics and attend an interview, which usually takes place in January of Year 6. A Headteacher’s report from the pupil’s current school may also be taken into account.

Offers are made based on pupils’ performance in the test and are conditional on the boys achieving a minimum of 70% in each subject at Common Entrance in Year 8. For 13 Plus Entry, City of London School also offers various scholarships and bursary awards.
