How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to Bedford School

In order to take the Bedford School Aptitude Test for entry at 13 Plus level, candidates first need to register. The registration form can be accessed on the school website.

There’s also a non-refundable registration fee of £100 that should be paid to the Harpur Trust. In addition to the application form and relevant fee, students also need to provide their birth certificate and a passport-sized photograph. For more information on the upper school’s acceptance procedure, you can read the school’s terms and conditions.

The Bedford School 13 Plus Online Assessment

Students in Year 6 or 7, who register early for 13+ entry (between November and March), will sit the ISEB Common Pretest at their current school.

The ISEB Common Pretest is designed to provide the school with an overview of their academic ability over several subject areas (Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning). The pretest doesn’t simply test for knowledge, but intelligence memory and intellectual capacity. The test can only be taken once and is age-standardised to make sure that no candidate has an advantage over any other based on their age.

In addition to taking the pretest, a report will be requested from the student’s current school, and the results will be taken into consideration when allocating school places.

If students are successful in the pretest, they may be invited to the school for a formal interview. As with all independent school interviews, the purpose is to learn more about the candidates extra-curricular activities, meet them face-to-face and further determine their suitability.

If students are successful in both the pretest and the interview, the school will make a conditional offer and parents will have the opportunity to secure a place.

Bedford School Admissions Criteria

Admission to Bedford Upper School is based on the results of the aptitude test, the current school report and the results of the face-to-face interview. Your child’s assessment results for entry in September are sent by post in February. Parents then have until the following month to decide whether or not they will accept the place.

When a conditional offer is made, parents will pay a non-refundable deposit to secure their child’s place. Deposits are returned at the end of the child’s time at the school.

How to Prepare for the Bedford School Pretest

Bedford school uses the ISEB Common Pretest for students who register early. Like in every exam, good preparation leads to success. That’s why, at Pretest Plus, we specialise in helping students prepare for pretests with our online practice tests and courses.

We believe that the best way to prepare for independent school pretests is to do practice tests in the lead up to the actual exam. As with most school pretests, our practice tests are completed online. They will help your child get familiar with the layout of actual exam and help you identify their strengths and weaknesses.

Covering all four sections of the pretest – Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, our resources help students better focus their efforts and identify any areas that they need to improve in. Information on statistical averages is also provided.
