How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to Westminster School

Competition for places at Westminster School is fierce and so parents and guardians are advised to submit their child’s application for 13 Plus entry at least four years before their child reaches Year 9. In the first instance, both parents and pupils are encouraged to attend one of Westminster School’s open days or a specific 13+ tour. The tour usually takes place in the Spring Term of Year 5. This visit gives families the chance to meet current staff and pupils and to take a tour of the facilities on offer within the school grounds.

In the next instance, parents must register their son for 13+ entry by completing the registration form and returning it to the school’s Registrar alongside a non-refundable registration fee of £160 and a copy of the candidate’s birth certificate. Boys must be registered for 13+ entry by the end of Year 5 at the latest.

If you have any further questions about the admissions process at 13 Plus, email [email protected] or call 0207 963 1003.

The Westminster School 13 Plus Pretest Assessment

Before a place can be offered, all candidates need to sit the ISEB Common Pretest Exam in October or November. The entrance examination is usually taken at the pupil’s current school and the timed, online pretest covers four core subjects, English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The aim of this one-off test is to give schools an idea of a pupil’s academic potential and to help the school to make a decision on place allocation.

Westminster School Admissions Criteria

To get to the next stage of the 13+ application process at Westminster – the admissions interview – boys must pass the ISEB Pretest and a satisfactory reference must be provided from their current Headteacher. Successful students are then invited to attend Westminster for an interview in January/February, which includes a series of short tests in English and Mathematics.

Places are allocated based on the student’s performance in the pretest, the admissions interview, the assessments and their school report. For 2021 entry onwards, Westminster will no longer require students to sit Common Entrance as part of the application process.

Westminster School also offers 13+ entry through two types of scholarship, for those pupils that excel in academics and music.
