Radley College 13 Plus (13+) Pretest Practice Tests (and Courses)

Introduction

Radley College was founded in 1847 and is an independent boys’ boarding school situated within an 800-acre campus in Oxfordshire. Open to boys aged 13 to 18 years, the College currently educates almost 700 pupils. A Church of England school, it is one of only four boys’ senior schools that exclusively offer boarding-only.

Thanks to its extensive campus, Radley offers its students a huge selection of outdoor extracurricular activities. Although best known for its rugby, the College also has excellent cricket grounds and world-class sporting facilities.

How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to Radley College

The first stage to registering for 13 Plus entry to Radley College is to visit the school itself. Both prospective pupils and parents are invited to attend a Group Visit Day at the College, which allows them to take a tour of the campus, see the classrooms and learn more about the teaching and activities on offer. Please note that Group Visit Days are very popular, so parents are encouraged to sign up well in advance of their child’s year of entry. For upcoming dates, please call the Admissions Office on 01235 543 174, or email [email protected].

Recently, Radley College has introduced a new system for 13 Plus entry. Those registered will be placed on the Radley List, while those not yet registered will be processed via Open Entry. Due to the competition for places, parents are strongly advised to begin the registration process at least three years prior to required year of entry. Open Entry application forms must be completed and returned to the Admissions Office, alongside a non-refundable fee of £250.

Successful applicants on the Radley List will be asked to attend an interview and a report will be requested from the student’s current Headteacher, which must be received by the end of the summer term in Year 5.

The Radley College 13 Plus Pretest Assessment

Whether your son is applying for a 13 Plus place via the Radley List or Open Entry, he must sit the ISEB Common Pretest exam. Radley List boys must sit the exam by 1s December of Year 6, while Open Entry pupils must have sat theirs by the end of the Lent Term. The age-standardised test measures a pupil’s current ability and attainment across several core subjects, including English, Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The online assessment takes approximately two-and-a-half hours to complete and is in multiple choice format.

Radley College Admissions Criteria

In order to secure a provisional place in Year 9 at Radley College, students must pass the ISEB Pretest. Those on the Radley List that pass the Pretest with the equivalent of 60% and do well at their interview, will be placed on the A List and given an unconditional offer in March of Year 6.

Those applying via Open Entry will be shortlisted in the May of Year 6, based on their pretest results and their school report. At this point, Open Entry pupils will be invited to interview and attend one of the College’s assessment days. Successful candidates will then be offered an unconditional place.

Radley also offers six scholarships at 13+ level, for those that excel in particular subjects.
