Introduction

 

Old Palace of John Whitgift School is an independent school for girls in Croydon, London. Founded in 1889, it is operated by the Whitgift Foundation and occupies a Grade I listed building. [1]

 

The school offers a broad syllabus, comprising 17 different subject areas such as science, MFL, DT, computer science and Latin. The vigorous educational provision at Old Palace also includes a number of co-curricular opportunities, ranging from choir, origami and Problem Solving Club to swimming, Amnesty Club and dance. Old Palace School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions Information

 

Prior to applying for a Year 7 place, you are advised by the school to visit their campus during Open Events. The main Saturday Open Event is held in October, while Working Open Events take place throughout the year. Booking forms can be accessed through this page

 

Application forms should be submitted with a payment of a £100 non-refundable fee. The deadline for applications is in late November of the year preceding entry.

 

The 11+ entrance examination is set to take place in January. Old Palace will request a reference from your daughter’s current school and there will also be an interview with a senior staff member. 

 

Offers of places are posted in early February, to be accepted by the deadline in March with a payment of a £800 deposit. 

 

On 11+ exam day, the school administers an online Reasoning test alongside Maths and English papers.

 

The online test is similar to the Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4), which covers four subject areas, each of them evaluating pupils’ Reasoning skills through standardised assessments.

As part of the assessment process for late transfer entry, your child will be asked to complete an online assessment similar to CAT4.

The online assessment, similar to CAT4, is likely to cover Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, Spatial Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning.

 

  • The Verbal Reasoning section examines problem-solving skills using words.

 

  • The Non-Verbal Reasoning section covers problem-solving using shapes and patterns, rather than words.

 

  • The Spatial Reasoning section assesses your child’s ability to identify shapes and how they change. 

 

  • The Quantitative Reasoning section tests their ability to solve problems using numbers.
