Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School | Late Transfer (In-Year 12+ and 13+) Entry Information

Introduction

Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School (TWGGS) is a selective grammar school for girls in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Established in 1905, the school specialises in Maths and English and has been rated as ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED. [1]

The extensive curriculum aims to ensure girls’ smooth transition to higher education. Lessons for a number of challenging subjects are delivered in a stimulating and effective manner, boosting students’ skills in the areas of art, science, computer science, DT, drama, economics, English, geography, history, maths, MFL, music, PE, politics, psychology, religious studies and sociology.

Fundamental to the school’s educational philosophy is the enrichment programme. Varied and extensive, it aims to maximise girls’ abilities beyond the curricular content, whether that be in music, drama, sport, STEM or public speaking. Trips to a wide range of destinations are organised regularly and TWGGS’ relationships with other educational facilities around the world, including in countries like Ghana and India, are vigorous, maintained mainly through exchange programmes.

Guided by the motto ‘Give your best’, girls progress through school with high levels of confidence and strong capacity for reflective thought, benefiting from its safe and inclusive community centred on mutual respect. Self-assured and responsible, they make considerable contributions to the richness of experience at TWGGS and leave school with an abundance of skills and virtues, along with fond memories. [2]

Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School standard entry point is 11 Plus. However, the school also accepts applications from pupils interested in In-Year (Late) Entry. To assess pupils for In-Year entry, Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School administers the CAT4 online test and National Curriculum examinations. [3]

The Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4) covers four subject areas, each of them evaluating pupils’ Reasoning skills through standardised assessments.
