The Oratory School 13 Plus (13+) Pretest Practice Tests (and Courses)

Introduction

Founded in 1859, The Oratory School is an independent boys’ Roman Catholic day and boarding school. Situated in Woodcote, near Reading, the school is the only remaining all-boys catholic school in the UK. The school is known for providing state-of-the-art boarding facilities as well as a recently refurbished sports centre, which includes a swimming pool, a golf course, and tennis courts. The school encourages its pupils to pursue excellence in all that they do to ensure that they reach their maximum potential.

How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to The Oratory School

Before registering, parents and students are encouraged to visit the school during one of its ‘show rounds’, which take place during the week. During the visit, attendees will have the opportunity to take a tour of the school with a Housemaster to see its facilities and accommodation. Parents and students will also have the chance to speak with current pupils at the school. The school advises parents to book a show round well in advance by contacting the school Registrar on 01491 683522 or by emailing [email protected].

The school recommends that parents register their child at least 2 years in advance of their date of entry. Registration forms can be accessed on the school website here. The registration fee is £50 .

The Oratory School 13 Plus Pretest Assessment

Once registered, boys are required to take the ISEB Common Pretest in Year 6 or Year 7. Parents are advised to contact the school Registrar for further information. However, for a general overview of the ISEB pretest, you can read our post The ISEB Common Pretest: What You Need to Know.

The Oratory School Admissions Criteria

Students who meet the required standard in the pretest are invited to sit the 13 Plus Common Entrance or Scholarship exam in the year of entry.

The Oratory School also requests references from each boy’s current school and parents are informed of their son’s performance in the exam shortly after.

Successful students will be offered a place at the school and parents will be sent a letter outlining the terms and conditions of the offer. Upon accepting a place, parents are required to pay a deposit and sign and return the school’s acceptance form.

Once a place has been accepted, students are invited to take part in various events throughout the year before entry. The Oratory School’s ‘New Boys Day’ is one such event designed to introduce new students to their classmates and Housemasters.

For more information on the admissions process at The Oratory School, please visit the Admissions page on the school’s website.

How to Prepare for The Oratory School 13 Plus Pretest

Competition for places at The Oratory School is high, so students should make sure they leave enough time to prepare for the pretest. At Pretest Plus, we publish pretest practice tests and courses, designed to help pupils become more familiar with the layout of the actual tests. Our resources also help to identify the types of questions that they may be asked in the actual exam.

Practice tests and courses also provide a good indication of a child’s current academic level. Students should sit our pretest practice tests under exam conditions, so they can get used to answering questions quickly and under pressure. The more experience students have in testing environments, the better their time management skills will become.

Our pretest practice tests and courses are ideal for students preparing for The Oratory School ISEB Common Pretest. They cover all four subjects tested: Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, English and Maths. After each test, instant feedback is provided alongside detailed explanations for each question. You will also receive statistical averages to give an indication of your child’s relative performance.
