Introduction
Founded in 1862 by the Sisters of Sion, Our Lady of Sion School is a privately funded, coeducational Catholic independent school in Worthing, West Sussex. Part of a worldwide network of schools founded by the Sisters of Sion, Our Lady of Sion School combines a traditional heritage with a forward-looking curriculum. The school has a diverse community and welcomes staff and pupils from all faiths, cultures and traditions. The school’s motto is ‘Consideration Always’.
How to Apply for Year 7 Entry to Our Lady of Sion School
Before applying for a Year 7 place at Our Lady of Sion School, it’s recommended that parents and prospective students attend one of the school’s Open Days, which are held throughout the spring and summer months. Parents and pupils will have the opportunity to meet the school Head, other staff members, and current students at the school. Parents can book an Open Day place on the school website, here.
In order to register students for a Year 7 place, parents need to complete the school’s registration form, which can be completed online. A non-refundable registration fee of £50 also needs to be paid at the time of registration.
The Our Lady of Sion School Year 7 CAT4 Assessment
Our Lady of Sion School uses the Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4) for Year 7 11 plus entry. Typically held in January, the school also offers students the opportunity to take the test on an ad hoc basis at other times throughout the year.
In addition to the CAT results, entry to the school is determined by a parent and student interview with the Headmaster, and references from the student’s previous school.

Our Lady of Sion School Admissions Criteria
The admissions procedure for Year 7 entry to Our Lady of Sion School has three steps:
– Entrance tests
– Interviews
– References
The entrance test takes the form of the CAT4, focusing on verbal, non-verbal and quantitative reasoning skills, together with a creative writing test.
The General interview aims to explore pupils’ interests, attitudes and personal qualities and to assess their ability to contribute to the school community.
References are requested from pupils’ former schools, and aim to provide Our Lady of Sion School with an insight into each student’s academic ability, attitude, behaviour, talents and interests. The reference may also include NFER and SATs grades, as well as predicted GCSE results.
In some cases, a candidates age may also be taken into consideration when allocating places. Special circumstances, i.e. learning needs, illness etc. are also considered. After accepting a place at the school, parents need to pay a refundable deposit of £250.
