Culford School 11 Plus (11+) Pretest Practice Tests (and Courses)

Introduction

Culford School is an independent, co-educational school surrounded by picturesque Suffolk parkland, four miles from the market town of Bury St Edmunds. The school has been fully co-educational since 1972, educating boys and girls from nursery to age 18. Culford has approximately 700 pupils, with over half of the senior school made up of boarders.

While the school’s roots reach back to 1873, it moved to its present home at Culford Park in 1935. It has a reputation for sporting achievement, with an Olympic horse rider and a Welsh international hockey player among its alumni.

How to Apply for 11 Plus Entry to Culford School

Parents who want to register their child for Year 7 entry are encouraged to attend the school’s Open Day, which takes place in March. The day includes an informal tour of the school’s facilities and an opportunity to meet the Headmaster and other teaching staff over a buffet lunch.

Most pupils join at the beginning of the academic year in September, but children are able to join throughout the year provided there are places available.

In order to register a student for Year 7 entry, parents are advised to contact the Admissions team on 01284 385308, or by email at [email protected] in order to check on the availability of places.

Registration forms can be downloaded from the school website. Alternatively, parents can request a form to be sent out by post, alongside an Information for Applicants brochure and prospectus.

Once registration is complete, parents are required to pay a non-refundable deposit of £100. The school will provide regular updates on upcoming events, assessments and the relevant examinations, including details of any scholarships that were applied for.

The Culford School 11 Plus Pretest Assessment

All children applying for entry to Year 7 at Culford School are required to sit the ISEB Common Pretest, which is a computer-based test that is completed online. It aims to provide schools with an overview of a pupil’s academic potential in the core subjects of Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

The test cannot be repeated in the same academic year and is age-standardised so that all students taking part are ensured a level playing-field.

Culford School Admissions Criteria

After pretesting, Culford School requires children to take entrance examinations in a welcoming and supportive environment. Examinations take place between November and January and the results are provided within a week of taking the test.

Offers are made following satisfactory reports from the student’s previous school.

11+ Academic Scholarships are also available for Year 7 entry and are worth up to 25% of tuition fees. In some circumstances, bursaries can also be awarded to augment the value of a scholarship.

How to Prepare for the Culford School Pretest

Culford School uses the ISEB Common Pretest as part of its 11 plus assessment. An effective way to prepare your child for the exam is to use our online practice tests and courses.

Not only do our tests help familiarise students with the layout and style of the ISEB Pretest, they can also help students to develop their time management skills.

Importantly, these tests and courses highlight students’ strengths and weaknesses. This information can then be used to focus study on those areas that require improvement.

Our Pretest practice tests have four timed sections that cover the required areas of Mathematics, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Once a test is complete, students can review their answers and read comprehensive explanations of each question. Statistical averages are also included to give an indication of relative performance.
